How to fill out a PDF form

"Filling out a PDF" can mean two different things. Some PDFs are interactive forms with clickable fields your reader software fills in. Many more are flat forms — a printed-looking document with blank lines and boxes, but no real fields behind them. The second kind is far more common: scanned applications, downloaded government paperwork, contracts, and one-off documents someone made in a word processor and exported.

For flat forms the reliable approach is the same one you'd use with a pen on paper — put your text in the right spot. Be aware of one honest limit: the editor does not fill a PDF's built-in interactive form fields (the clickable AcroForm widgets some documents ship with). Instead it lets you place your own text and signature on top of the page — which completes the form for every practical purpose, including printing and emailing it back. The result is a normal, flattened PDF rather than a form with live fields still inside it.
