Product photo sizes for Etsy and eBay

Etsy recommends listing photos of at least 2000 pixels in both width and height. The first photo has a lower floor: it should be at least 635 pixels in width and in height, or the listing can rank lower in search. That first photo should be landscape or square.

A listing can include up to 20 photos. Animated GIF is not supported. Transparent PNG is not supported either, and any transparency shows as black. Images over 1 MB may fail to finish uploading on a slow connection, so a large pixel size still needs a file that can finish the trip.

eBay's picture policy requires at least one photo, and that photo must be at least 500 pixels on the longest side. The adding-pictures guidance sets a minimum of 500 by 500 pixels and recommends about 1600 by 1600 pixels. The uploader accepts files up to 12 MB, and a listing can have up to 24 photos.

Do not add text, borders, or watermarks. A clean product shot meets the policy. A frame, a slogan, or a stamp across the corner does not.

EditItAll has no box where you type a target such as 2000, and it has no Etsy or eBay preset. On the tools page you set an optional max-dimension cap (the longest side) and a JPG quality slider. The results list shows the original size, then the new size, rounded to a whole KB. A line that reads 20 KB can be 20.4 KB before rounding.

1. Open the photo on /tools. Processing runs entirely in your browser. The file stays on your device. There is no account and no watermark.
2. The cap only shrinks the longest side. It never enlarges a photo. If either side is already under 2000, shoot or export a larger original before you cap anything. Capping a 4000 by 3000 photo at 2000 makes it 2000 by 1500, which misses Etsy's both-sides recommendation.
3. Move the quality slider, read the rounded KB result, and repeat until the file is in the range you want. For a tighter JPG, use JPG compress the same way: quality slider, optional cap, then the size readout.
4. If you want a 1:1 crop before you export, open the same photo in the photo editor and crop to square, then return to the tools page for the cap and quality pass.

The page works offline after it loads. Nothing is uploaded.

A useful shared target is a square JPG whose longest side is 2000 pixels. That meets Etsy's 2000-by-2000 recommendation and sits above eBay's about-1600 recommendation. The first Etsy frame should stay landscape or square, and every side should stay at or above 635 pixels.

• Etsy: aim for 2000 by 2000 when the source is that large, keep the first photo landscape or square, and try to stay at or under 1 MB so a slow upload can finish.
• eBay: stay at or above 500 pixels on the longest side, prefer about 1600 by 1600, and keep the file at or under the 12 MB uploader limit, with no text, border, or watermark.
• If one shop photo must serve both, export the 2000-pixel version first, then lower JPG quality until the Etsy 1 MB concern is covered. Check the rounded KB figure after each change.
