How to convert JPG to PNG

JPG is the default for photos because it makes small files, but it does that by throwing detail away every time it saves. That is fine for a finished photo and a problem the moment you want to keep editing: each re-save of a JPG loses a little more. PNG is lossless — once your image is a PNG, saving it again never degrades it, so it is the better working format for screenshots, graphics and anything you will touch more than once.

Second, PNG files are usually larger than JPG, especially for photographs, because lossless compression cannot shrink photographic detail as aggressively. PNG shines for flat graphics, logos, text and screenshots. For a photo you mainly want to share or upload, a high-quality JPG is often the smaller, more practical choice.
